PREPARATION and AFTERCARE for Eyebrows and Microblading
In the world of microblading and PMU, there are so many variations of aftercare. Follow my instructions and your clients will experience the best healing ever.
Here we go, it's long but it's worth it!
After the procedure, it is important to clean the area gently twice and day and apply an aftercare ointment to keep the skin moisturized and supple during the healing process.
It all starts with a good canvas! The eyebrow area must be healthy, strong, non-sensitive and non-irritated.
PREPARATION:
Do not pick/tweeze/wax/perform electrolysis one week before procedure.
Do not tan two weeks prior or have sunburned face.
Do not have any type of facial 2 weeks prior to treatment. Do not work out the day of the procedure.
Do not have Botox 4 weeks prior.
Do not take Fish Oil or Vitamin E one week prior (natural blood thinners) Do not wax or tint your eyebrows 3 days before the procedure.
To avoid excessive bleeding and potential damage to your pmu:
Do not drink alcohol 24 - 48 hours before your procedure.
Do not consume coffee before your procedure.
Do not take an aspirin or ibuprofen for pain relief (this thins the blood)
AFTERCARE:
STEP 1: For the first hour every 5 minutes: Gently blot the area with tissue to absorb excess fluid. Removing this fluid prevents hardening of any blood plasma/lymph.
STEP 2, Days 1-7: Wash daily
Gently wash your eyebrows each morning and night with antibacterial soap and water by using your fingertips to gently cleanse the eyebrows. Rub the area in a circular motion for 10 seconds and rinse with water. DO NOT use any cleansing products containing acids (glycolic, lactic, or AHA), or any exfoliators. Foamy Dial soap, Cetaphil, and Neutrogena are good choices. Use a very light touch when cleansing your procedure. Make sure you rinse off all soap. Pat with a paper towel to dry the area
STEP 3, Days 1-7 Moisturize:
Apply a pin-point drop of aftercare ointment with a Q-tip and spread it across the area. Do not over-apply the product. This will suffocate your skin and delay healing. The ointment should be barely noticeable on the skin. Never put the ointment on a wet or damp tattoo.
🌸Important reminders🌸
Use a fresh pillowcase
DO NOT rub, pick or scratch the treated area. Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate off. Picking can cause scarring or loss of color. NO facials, Botox, chemical treatments and microdermabrasion for 4 weeks Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after procedure.
Avoid heavy sweating and long hot showers for the first 10 days.
Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days. Avoid swimming, lakes, hot tubs for two weeks. Avoid topical makeup including sunscreen on the treatment area.
About showering:
Limit your shower to 5 minutes as not to create too much steam. Keep your face/procedure out of the water while you wash your body, then, at the end of your shower, wash your hair with your back turned toward the shower head. You do not want direct water pressure on your face. Your face should only be getting wet at the very last end of the shower.
Approximate Healing Schedule
Day Effect
1 Bold colour, dramatic appearance, tender, slight bleeding. Slight discharge.
2 Eyebrows look very dark and appears thicker in texture.
3-4 Same as day 2 but a little lighter.
5 Starting to itch. DO NOT SCRATCH!!!
5-10 Flaky skin starts – peels from the outside edges first. Skin may be itchy and color looks patchy
10 Colour finishes flaking off. At this point, the colour appears too light with missing spots. You may feel it is too light and that your skin did not take the colour well. Please be patient and color will even out as the skin “mends” back together.
14-21 Colour and definition returns, hairstrokes start to reappear and even out.
30 Healing is complete. All colour is healed within the skin. Eyebrows should look very natural and soft. However, a touchup will most likely be required.
